The Alchemist, by Paula Coelho

When I was a young girl trying to decide who I would be when I grew up, my mother, Sweetie, gave me perhaps the best advice ever. Her advice to me: Follow your heart and the money will follow. What I did not understand about this advice at the time was how intricate a process it would be to embrace my heart with all of the distractions one encounters along the way. We are all on our way to somewhere. The challenge is, and will always be, how to arrive with our dreams and our hearts still intact.

The Alchemist, by Paul Coelho is a wonderful story about a boy who ventures out on a journey in search of his fortune only to learn that it is in seeking the desires of one’s heart that fortune is truly found.

What is most compelling about the book are the lessons he learns along the way and the understanding he gains of the value of each lesson to solving one of life’s greatest mysteries; that is answering the question of why are you here and what are you supposed to do before you leave. With each experience he wonders if he has indeed found the answer to what he is seeking, but every time realizes that giving in to momentary pleasures and challenges are all distractions designed to hinder you from realizing your dream.

The Alchemist is a great portrayal of what each human being experiences in life and it captivates the reader by invading those hidden areas that most people lack the courage to express outside of their mental walls.

This books is certainly a great read and an affirmation that no matter who you are, your heart always knows your truth.

How good is that...
