Good Health, Food and Life: the Mission for Bonnie McDaniel’s ‘Recipes for Good Living’ Online Magazine
There’s a difference between “living” and “existing” as it applies to a good quality of life. Entrepreneur Bonnie McDaniel has made it her mission, her labor of love and generosity, to share the distinction in what has become her life’s work—Recipes for Good Living. Founded by Bonnie McDaniel, the monthly online magazine, first conceived over twelve years ago, and officially launched in June 2010, is a timely, life-enhancement lifestyle journal at the heart of which are the cultivation, nurturing, and perpetuation of healthy living, healthy families, healthy food and their symbiotic relationship to leading a balanced life. Eat well, live well, be well, and thrive are the tenets upon which Bonnie lives her own life, permeating her family relationships and guiding her approach to daily living. This nexus between her principled everyday life and her life’s work is seamlessly translated in the themes inherent to the magazine and shared with her readers, colleagues, and all who know her.
“We’re living in the digital information age,” Bonnie explains. “We want instant messages and instant results. The pace of life continues to quicken thanks to the wonders of technology but also to our growing impatience. Juxtapose this instant-gratification lifestyle with the environmental degradation that continues to take its toll on our collective health and our quality of life is naturally compromised. We can’t avoid or slow down change, but we can alter our approach to change as it affects our quality of life. Healthy relationships—family and friends—are vital to our sustainability just as the health of ecosystems sustain our planet.
Balance of mind, body, and spirit cannot be overemphasized. Each has a direct impact on the others, and when one is out of alignment, we feel the disruption to our quality of life. Unhealthy food can be a cause. The seasonal climate may be a cause. A human relationship gone awry can certainly be a cause. And our own thoughts may be a cause. Recipes for Good Living is our attempt at enhancing and maintaining this balance of mind, body, and spirit for optimal health, which in turn translates to optimal living. It is as much a commitment and promise as it is a process and goal, but very much attainable.”
Recipes for Good Living features video demonstrations that add dimension to the timely, engaging articles from contributing writers/editors who share their life event experiences, including wedding planning; vacation and romantic respites; food recipes that emphasize taste, health and the locavore (locally grown and sold produce) movement; and an e-commerce page at which Bonnie’s published media and other products may be purchased. The magazine’s professional team includes experts in the fields of, licensed social work and health counseling, physical fitness, media arts and licensed grief recovery facilitation, and photography.
As editor in chief of the magazine, Bonnie brings a wealth of experience to her post. She is an author, former radio talk show host, host of a lifestyle talk show on the ION Network, director of the annual Women Are Talking conference, host of Its Thyme TV, Fox Morning News lifestyle contributor, syndicated columnist, and former editor for Family Digest Magazine. Her professional journey is highlighted by such notable distinctions as award-winning restaurateur (Wine Spectator Award for one of the best restaurants in the world) and former mother of the year for the State of Virginia. Bonnie is also a seasoned chef and avid gardener. Most recent Bonnie was a presenter at the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show, a national tour featuring the best of the best in food and lifestyle experts featuring celebrity hosts from the Food Network.
More than a magazine, Recipe for Good Living is a life-enhancing experience that continually shares with its readership simple, easy-to-apply themes of achieving and maintaining balanced, good living. It’s a gift that never stops giving. And so is Bonnie McDaniel Good Living.
